The Mentalist "Copper Bullet" Review

The Mentalist in a nutshell: It's all an ILLUSION (read: VISUAL LIES) and the play is "The Sting."

Patrick Jane pulls the trigger on a big "Sting" when he calls a fellow grifter to help get a corrupt DEA officer who threatened to put a bullet in FBI agent Abbott and his wife's careers to shoot his mouth off to the wrong person in "Copper Bullet." (read: DEA-con blue) While Jane's targeting of the corrupt DEA officer's hidden cash was on the mark, his reasoning was LOONEY TUNES to have Wiley drive like a madman ROADRUNNER from Austin to San Antonio to COYOTE the two million dollars the FBI just had lying around and was as thin as the copper in a full metal jacket. (FYI: The weight of $2,000,000 in 20 dollar bills is over 200 pounds.)  Any self-respecting grifter would have created a fake cash pile to convince the DEA officer that the cat was out of the bag.  In the real world, Abbott would have been either driving the car with heavily guarded FBI guys or would have arranged a helicopter to arrange the cash transfer.  But hey...

It's All an ILLUSION

Scrambled eggs:  TM is Bruno Heller's attempt to push the envelope of the "suspension of disbelief"  to force the viewer with half a REVIEW BRAIN to realize "The Mentalist" is an ILLUSION.  Golden Man Patrick Jane appears to be a Sherlock Holmes super-sleuth character, but in reality is a mental patient with a cracked eggshell who suffers from paranoid delusions due to feelings of extreme guilt in the deaths of his wife and child who were burned as he was (CBI = intensive burn care?)  in a horrific car accident involving a driver named Tanner when he failed to stop at a BLINKING RED LIGHT CROSSING AN INTERSECTION, hence the RJ symbol, while he was driving intoxicated  and spends his days in an airstream of consciousness with the remote watching TV shows, which generate his ideas for the delusional episodes. Note: Jane's eggshell blue car - a vintage 1972 Citroen DS 20 that Warner Bros., producer of "The Mentalist" for CBS, had in its inventory. It was used in the 2008 movie "Speed Racer." For "The Mentalist," the car was shipped from Germany and painted eggshell blue (it was originally red).

Lisbuns:  We're going to have to get back to the real world at some point.
Jane:  Really?

Burning Clues: "The Mentalist" is obsessed with fire, as in half the episodes it plays a significant plot point. Items:  Jane burns his Red John files with a bottle of booze. "Curiously, a corpse was found in a burned car in "Ruby Slippers," in which Jane discovers the identity of Fifi Nix, like Jane's Phoenix, has risen from the ashes of his past life.  In "Red Dawn" Jane is given a desk next to a fire extinguisher that is there, then it's gone, then it's there again.   Fake Red John read all about it - catch the fire-y headline on the front page of the newspaper Tim Carter was reading before Jane shot him.  Red John appeared to Jane in the burn mask.  Jane: It's not my fire.

Perhaps Bruno referred to a song that Sting made famous.  The lyrics will burn in your imagination and perhaps provide a clue about Patrick Jane's:

I wake in pain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand
I dream of fire
Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire
And in the flames
Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire
This desert rose
Each of her seven veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this
And as she turns
This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams
This fire burns
I realize that nothing's as it seems.

Really

Jane: Lisbuns, if this thing blows up, the Feds will be the least of our problems.

The Mentalist "Whites of His Eyes" Review

The Mentalist in a nutshell: It's all an ILLUSION (read: VISUAL LIES) that "Lied-on" fired when he saw the "Whites of His Eyes."

De. Wagner:  Everything you've told me, Mr. Jane,  is total fiction, isn't it?
Jane:  From the INCEPTION

The Mentalist "Whites of His Eyes" featured an expert sniper "HITMAN" who turned up the "HEAT" the same week "American Sniper" made it to the big screen. I would have gone with "UNSAFE WHITE HOUSE" myself, as the FBI made a bad decision to keep its remaining eyewitness in a unsafe White Garden hotel room until she could testify against a thug who trashed some guy at a club for spilling a drink on him. That questionable decision was topped by Patrick Jane's to focus on a local hitman because there was powdered sugar on the coat of a victim at the hi-rise where "Lied-on" took out three men, including another eyewitness to the crime,  when he fired before he saw the "Whites of His Eyes."  (As Abbott observed,  Jane sees what he wants to see...on TV.)  Speaking of longshots, the Lisbuns-Jane romance may be missing the mark as super-competitive Lisbuns was smoking hot that Jane took her out of the picture when the "Unsafe White House" escape went down.  In TM, where there's smoke there's someone about to fire, but then ...

The Mentalist "Little Yellow House" Review

The Mentalist in a nutshell: It's all an ILLUSION (read: VISUAL LIES) that yellow and blue make green. On balance it turns to black...like TM.

Dr. Linus Wagner: Everything you told me, Mr. Jane, is total fiction, isn't it?
Jane:  From the INCEPTION

BlueBird Patrick Jane plays his cards right in "Little Yellow House" helping Robin Greenshades' brothers  get off the hook with the Ace of Spades poker trick as old as Aqua Velva to get the yellow murderer to show his hand. Everyone has a tell, especially the TM writers who drop blue clues in the TM fishy stories.

The Mentalist "Green Light" Review

The Mentalist in a nutshell: It's all an ILLUSION (read: VISUAL LIES) that you can tell a cheat by his haircut, because, if that were so, Patrick Jane would be the Grande... I guess you can.  Bravo.

Dr. Linus Wagner: Everything you told me, Mr. Jane, is total fiction, isn't it?
Jane:  From the INCEPTION

How many times are the villains gonna fall for the harmless weapon routine? It was unbelievable when Jane used his WMD - weapon of mass deception - to trick Richard Haibach,  the criminal mastermind who was killing off the Scooby gang in "White as Driven Snow."  Bruno Heller is off to "Gotham," so who gave the "Green Light" to use it again? Simple, SIMON.  Perhaps Simon says we are supposed to "STOP" and "THINK."   Think about the fall of "Rome" and corrupt societies like "Gotham."  Absolute Power, even in the hands of that jerk Peterson in the DEA, tends to corrupt.   Remember when we fell for the weapons of mass deception -  Iraqi WMDs  -and then we were so close to falling for fake reports that the Syrian government gassed its own people?  You Turkey, you can't trust the CIA,  just like the FBI can't trust the DEA. The moral of the TM story is there are no morals and everybody is lying.  Truth be told ---
