The Mentalist "Silver Briefcase" Review

The Mentalist in a nutshell:  It's all an ILLUSION (read: VISUAL LIES) that reads like "Pulp Fiction."  Speaking of, what was in that gold glowing briefcase, Tarantino?

Patrick Jane meets an Army colonel whose wife was murdered eight months ago and suspects immediately that "something is not right." The suspect colonel had an alibi at the time because he was caught on camera RUNNING A RED LIGHT with someone the police suspected was his wife.  Jane then suspects the colonel, who believes "war is the only reality," and someone the colonel met at work killed his wife with an African war club. Since there was no African art in the house, Jane suspects it belonged to the woman.  Wylie locates the suspect woman whose office is a museum of African art. Jane gets the two to turn on each other by bluffing them in a prisoner's dilemma about the contents in a suspect (aluminum) "Silver Briefcase."  Speaking of suspects, the real estate agent failed to mention to Jane the "dream house" was on the market because the previous owner was murdered there. As we suspected, Jane saved a guy on death row who was convicted for the murder from "getting the needle."  Quite the INCEPTION. This is how you solve a crime... when the scene of the crime is in your dreams.

Dr. Linus Wagner: Everything you told me, Mr. Jane, is total fiction, isn't it?

The Mentalist "Black Market" Review

The Mentalist in a nutshell:  It's all an ILLUSION (read: VISUAL LIES) when you replace your counterfeit ideas with stolen ones and sell them as your own. The TM writers should all be behind bars.

Dr. Linus Wagner: Everything you told me, Mr. Jane, is total fiction, isn't it?

Jane:  From the INCEPTION

TM writer Tom Donaghy steals a gem in the "Black Market" from the "The Bone Collector" as Patrick Jane  plays Denzel's "Rhyme" and Lisbuns plays Jolie's "Donaghy"  to catch a  "Stone Collector."  Sick Jane takes a rest from the Mentalist on his comfy couch to catch his "Breath," but Lisbuns is up to the task as a fake mentalist (is there any other kind?)  to trick the murderer of an accomplice in the diamond  heist.  The biggest gem was in the end when Patrick revealed to Lisbuns that he was getting tired of solving the FBI case-of-the weak but Lisbuns says that's her life. Then Dennis Abbott reveals to his wife he thinks they should take a trial separation to benefit their careers.   Jane's Boss, Dennis,  is like Rhyme's boss, Cheney, who is like Bush's "boss", Cheney, a real "Bonehead Collector."

The Mentalist "Orange Blossom Ice Cream" Review

The Mentalist in a nutshell:  It's all an ILLUSION (read:VISUAL LIES), an homage to  "Lyon."  You can call it "Orange Blossom Ice Cream"  but it's "Lebanon Baloney" to me.

Dr. Linus Wagner: Everything you told me, Mr. Jane, is total fiction, isn't it?

Jane:  From the INCEPTION

Did Erica Flynn really need to bring Patrick Jane,  the FBI and the CIA into her Lebanon "I wanna go HOMELAND-baloney" scheme to steal a silver suitcase full of money?  Did Jane have to pull a  Johnny Mnemonic to remember all those numbers to pass a code to the guy in Atlanta to find the stolen blank passport chips? NO.  Erica could have simply had "Mr. Chips" killed and walked off with his cash, and the codes which required the "Paris" tourbook Jane found on Mr. Chips bookshelf to decipher could have been sent by email to John Paul. End of story. But then we wouldn't have the conflict scenes with Lisbuns and Erica. (Tom, where's the Erica-Lisbun catfight we all secretly yearned to see?)  Vega lies to Cho, not to mention the Lorelies of past relationships of Lisbuns and Jane.  Yummy, they were all "Lyon."

Jane: Don't tell a whole lot of little lies.  Just one big lie is enough.

The Mentalist "Greybar Hotel" Review

The Mentalist in a nutshell:  It's all an ILLUSION (read: VISUAL LIES), and Patrick Jane is a PRISONER of his own device.

Dr. Linus Wagner: Everything you told me, Mr. Jane, is total fiction, isn't it?

Image result for orange is the new black cast   and BLUE

Writer Jordan Harper is moving onto a new assignment - "Gotham."  He is certainly qualified as he has been writing in the fantasy genre in the "The Mentalist."  "The Greybar Hotel" will be remembered as the most fantastic TM episode, as the only thing missing in this theater-of-the-absurd was the shark that the show jumped. Instead of the bland "Greybar" color reference, Harper should have used his vivid color imagination and gone with a BLUE CLUE - "Prisoners of Love, BLUE SKIES Above."  A second choice would have been "Orange is the New BLUE."  Speaking of BLUE CLUES which the writers sprinkle throughout the episodes like Easter Eggs in the TM fantasy, the BLUE bottles that Jane sprinkled like bread crumbs to guide his FBI BLUE crew to the escape location provided the water for the shark. If this wasn't some fantasy, Jane would have used a cellphone to call for back-up. The whole show served as back-up for the "Homeland" Erica Flynn following episode in which Jane is a spy in a far-off place. Where is Conman Brodie?   Of course, Jane won't end up like him, a dead PRISONER  because...

The Mentalist "Nothing But Blue Skies" Review

The Mentalist in a nutshell:  It's all an ILLUSION (read:Visual Lies) that Patrick Jane, the Man in Blue, has a plan, a clue...a BLUE CLUE.

Dr. Linus Wagner: Everything you told me, Mr. Jane, is total fiction, isn't it?

Jane:  From the INCEPTION

"Blue days, all of them gone
Nothing but blue skies from now on"

What does "Blue Skies" have to do with this episode?   Is it nothing but Blue Skies from now on?  Well, raise your hand if you doubt Blue Bird Patrick Jane's romance with Lizbuns has a chance of taking off.  Pike, for one, has his doubts:  "What's your plan, Jane?"  Jane, the eternal pessimist, amazingly tells Lizbun that his "flight plan" is to just wing it, suggesting it will all work out. For all you Jizbun lovebirds out there, cue the background music: "nothing but blues skies from now on."  For the rest of us, the ending was similar to the ending of  "The Graduate" as these two lovebirds are really on a road to nowhere.  Talk about irony,  "Blue Skies" was a song from the Broadway musical "Betsy" which crashed on takeoff.  And Blue Skies was where Agent Cho inexplicably chose to shoot his gun off  to fool the Rocket Bowl owner/FBI murderer to run for his gun.Jane performs some illusions of his own, getting a suspect to tell him the location of the stolen military weapons and gets a kidnapper (a cereal killer of Justin Kellogg) to confess his murder of an undercover FBI agent, a feat as unbelievable as a 7-10 split. Meanwhile, we Swallow the news that Agent Fisher  has taken flight to Seattle to take care of her mother.  The truth is Fisher likely couldn't handle the truth that Jane was nesting with Lizbuns. But she's not the only one fooled because ...

This BLUE BIRD  is All an ILLUSION (FF:Summer and Tom end their relationship after they see The Graduate)

Scrambled eggs:  Golden Man Patrick Jane appears to be a Sherlock Holmes super-sleuth character, but in reality is a mental patient with a cracked eggshell who suffers from paranoid delusions due to feelings of extreme guilt in the deaths of his wife and child who were burned as he was (CBI = intensive burn care?)  in a horrific car accident involving a driver named Tanner when he failed to stop at a BLINKING RED LIGHT CROSSING AN INTERSECTION, hence the RJ symbol, while he was driving intoxicated  and spends his days with the remote watching TV shows, which generate his ideas for the delusional episodes. Note: Jane's eggshell blue car - a vintage 1972 Citroen DS 20 that Warner Bros., producer of "The Mentalist" for CBS, had in its inventory. It was used in the 2008 movie "Speed Racer." For "The Mentalist," the car was shipped from Germany and painted eggshell blue (it was originally red).

Lizbuns:  We're going to have to get back to the real world at some point.
Jane:  Really?

Burning Clues: "The Mentalist" is obsessed with fire, as in half the episodes it plays a significant plot point. Items:  Jane burns his Red John files with a bottle of booze. Out of the Frye-ing pan into the... As Kristina Frye discovered, when you get too close to Red John, you get burned.  "Tiger, Tiger burning bright, they were "Au-burned."  In the "Red Mile" episode Jane arrives at a crime scene outside Auburn, California.  Shouts from Alabama football fans of "Roll Tide" first appeared during the Alabama-Auburn Tiger IRON BOWL game in 1907. Note the Auburn football game was playing on the bedroom TV in "Desert Rose. "Curiously, a corpse was found in a burned car in "Ruby Slippers," in which Jane discovers the identity of Fifi Nix, like Jane's Phoenix, has risen from the ashes of his past life.  In "Red Dawn" Jane is given a desk next to a fire extinguisher that is there, then it's gone, then it's there again.   Fake Red John read all about it - catch the fire-y headline on the front page of the newspaper Tim Carter was reading before Jane shot him.  Red John appeared to Jane in the burn mask.  Jane: It's not my fire.

THE WILD WESTPHALL WORLD OVER THE RAINBOW

 Nothing Gold Can Stay

Red John is Patrick Jane's imaginary evil twin, his "perfect symmetry" alter-ego (Jane/John)Professor Moriarty character in a Tommy Westphall" imaginary world like "St. Elsewhere's" snow globe and "Life on Mars" that is the dream state of Jane.  (NB. The fake Jane character in "Red Moon" where a corpse was found in a burned car was named Ellis Mars (El - He is Mars.) Ellis Mars: The mind is a powerful weapon. It can create reality. Mr. Nguyen was LOST (also in the Westphall Universe) but was found in "Green Thumb."

Jane: Perhaps we can see each other again.
Lorelei: That’s not up to me.
Jane: Oh, you have no say in it?
Lorelei: None at all. It’s very "Westphall."
Jane: I don’t follow you.
Lorelei: I do what Red John tells me to do.

The Man with Two Names -- Red John's alias is ROY Tagliaferro (read: "cut iron").   The ROY CUT IRON  anagrams are "court irony" and "you r citron."  How ironic that Jane, the court jester who arrives at the crime scene in his Citroen and  master reader of how others' emotions control them and their need to let go of the past,  was a prisoner of his ironic chains to the past.  Until Jane leaves his old life behind, The Mentalist is on the mental list, a PRISONER of his own device.

 "The DESERT ROSE"

Perhaps Bruno referred to a song that Sting made famous.  The lyrics will burn in your imagination and perhaps provide a clue about Patrick Jane's:

I wake in pain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand
I dream of fire
Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire
And in the flames
Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire
This desert rose
Each of her seven veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this
And as she turns
This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams
This fire burns
I realize that nothing's as it seems.

Really

Jane: Blue Skies smiling at me. Nothing but Blue Skies  do I see.
